【聲明】無國界記者組織將於四月二十五日公布2018年新聞自由指數

無國界記者組織於下週三(4/25) 公布2018年新聞自由指數,東亞辦事處將於南韓首爾舉辦 公布記者會

新聞自由監督機構無國界記者組織將於2018年4月25日,公布今年的世界新聞自由指數。

自2002年起,新聞自由指數是一項重要的倡議工具,評量180個地區的新聞自由情況。今年無國界記者組織首次在亞洲舉辦發布新聞自由指數的記者會,和韓國記者協會合作,於首爾舉辦。今年南韓的新聞自由指數排名提升,是整個亞洲區域中最顯著的成長,過去十年南韓的新聞自由處於黑暗期,新聞自由指數的排名下降超過三十個名次。

無國界記者組織東亞辦事處執行長艾瑋昂表示,「南韓新聞界這些年來的努力,凸顯我們從來不該視新聞自由為理所當然,記者和公民社會可以對新聞自由產生真正的影響。我們鼓勵南韓持續提升新聞自由,如此一來不僅在亞洲,對全球的民主政體來說,都是仿效的模範。」

無國界記者組織是致力維護資訊自由的國際非政府、非營利組織,在聯合國、聯合國教科文組織(UNESCO)及歐洲委員會(Council of Europe)具諮詢地位。總部在巴黎,除了台北的東亞辦事處以外,在倫敦、柏林、布魯塞爾、日內瓦、赫爾辛基、馬德里、里約熱內盧、斯德哥爾摩、突尼西亞、維也納和華盛頓共有13個區域辦公室。

2018 World Press Freedom Index worldwide release on April 25

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) will release worldwide the 2018 RSF World Press Freedom Index on Wednesday April 25, 2018. RSF will organize a press conference in Seoul, as Korea registers the best progression in the whole Asia.

Media freedom watchdog Reporters Without Borders (RSF) will release worldwide its 2018 World Press Freedom Index on Wednesday April 25, 2018. The RSF World Press Freedom Index, published since 2002, is an important advocacy tool that evaluates the media freedom situation in 180 territories.

For the first time in Asia, RSF organizes an Index Release press conference that will take place in Seoul (South Korea), in cooperation with the Journalists Association of Korea (JAK). South Korea registers this year the best progression in the whole Asia, after a dark decade during which it fell more than 30 places in RSF’s index.

“The past struggles show that press freedom can never be taken for granted, but also that the journalists and the civil society can have have a real impact on press freedom”, said Cédric Alviani, the head of RSF’s East Asia desk. “We encourage South Korea to keep on the good work and set an example not only for Asia, but for all democracies in the world.”

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is an international non-profit organisation defending the freedom of information throughout the world thanks to its wide network of correspondents in 130 countries, its 13 offices (Paris, London, Berlin, Brussels, Geneva, Helsinki, Rome, Madrid, Stockholm, Vienna, Rio de Janeiro, Tunis, and Washington D.C.) and its consultative status at the United Nations, UNESCO and the Council of Europe.

NOTE FOR THE JOURNALISTS

The 2018 documents (texts, maps, country list) will be available starting this Monday in many languages including English, French, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Mongolian. All documents are under strict embargo until Wednesday April 25, 2018, 5:00 GMT which corresponds to 13:00 (Taiwan, China, Mongolia) or 14:00 (Korea, Japan). However, we can provide the material in advance to some media that would request it, on a case by case basis.

The RSF East-Asia bureau team and guests will be available for interviews on the day of the index release. Interviews may also be realized in advance on Monday April 23 and Tuesday April 24, by appointment on condition of respect of the embargo.
